matcha green tea ice cream

Matcha green tea ice cream: the perfect balance between bitter, sweet & creamy.

I remember my first time trying matcha tea ice-cream, it was a mini tub of Haagen Dazs from a vending machine at the hotel we were staying at in Kyoto, way back in 2005.  Then , when we were back in Australia I’d always order it whenever Brad and I went to our favorite Japanese restaurant, Wagaya.

Well, I asked my good friend Antony Perring, a foodie friend from back home, to do something creative with matcha for me, and he’s created this amazing green tea and coconut ice-cream. He also styled, and took the stunning photo above, isn’t it beautiful!

You can find the super easy recipe for this green tea and coconut ice-cream here:

If you have an ice-cream maker this is a super SUPER easy process involving not much more than opening a couple of tins and measuring out some sugar and the powdered green tea.

If you (like me) don’t have an ice cream maker, there’s a little bit of stirring and back and forth to the freezer to contend with, but really this is a non-cooking recipe that you should be able to knock up without having to think about it too much.

You can find Antony at , on Twitter as @antonyjperring  and on Facebook. He has also written a mean Lemon Iced Tea recipe that you can see here and has a recipe in the new Green and Black’s Ultimate Chocolate Recipes book, which is available for pre-order from Amazon for less than $17!
